What do the names cyan, magenta, yellow and black mean in printers?
Printers often announce the end of colors with the colors' English names:
- Black (BK or K) = black
- Cyan (C) = blue (officially teal or cyan)
- Magenta (M) = red
- Yellow (Y) = yellow
In Mustekala.fi ink cartridges, it is always separately stated if the cartridge for sale is C, M or Y color.
How do I find the right cartridge for my printer?
- If you know the code of your cartridge (e.g. Q2612A common cartridge code in HP printers), enter the cartridge code or part of it in the product search box on our home page and search. All ink cartridge models suitable for your printer will be displayed. If you don't remember the code of your printer's cartridge, you should take the old cartridge out of the printer and check the code often shown on the label.
- You can also search for a cartridge by printer model. Search for a printer model either in the search box on the front page or by clicking on the brand of your printer displayed on the front page. By clicking on the brand of your own device, you will get a list of the most common printer models of that brand in alphabetical order. By clicking on your own printer (e.g. HP Laserjet 1200), the cartridge models and other accessories suitable for your printer will be displayed.

What is the difference between original, replacement and replacement cartridges?
Accessory cassettes are cassettes made by someone other than the device manufacturer. The number of prints is usually higher than with original cartridges, but always at least the same. Our cassettes are always manufactured in such a way that they do not violate the device manufacturer's patents. In fact, the largest manufacturer of our accessory cartridges has more than 2,200 patents of their own for the technology of their cartridges. The use of accessory cartridges also does not affect the printer's warranty. With almost 20 years of experience, we have selected the best suppliers of the world's largest cassette manufacturers. In ink jet printer color cartridges, we import the winning brand in the industry's biggest competition in the "Highest quality ink jet cartridge" category. The manufacturer in question has won the competition every year since 2005. All the manufacturers of the inkjet cartridges we sell have an ISO 14001 environmental certificate and an ISO 9001 quality certificate. In terms of price, accessory cartridges are 20-80% cheaper than original cartridges.
The new cartridges are made using working and tested parts of the original cartridges. We only sell products from the best and largest refurbishing factories in the world. Every reused part has been checked. Each cartridge has a test print before packing it in its package. Also, using a new cartridge does not void the printer's warranty. We import the MSE brand made in the USA, which has been selected as the winner of the "Best quality laser cartridge" category every year since 2005 in the industry's biggest competition. They are the world's most technically advanced manufacturer of new cartridges and have several hundred patents of their own, which equipment manufacturers also often try to buy from them in order to develop their original cartridges. Especially in color lasers, MSE cartridges are actually even better than the original cartridges, because they have patented a technology that collects the surplus powder in the so-called with a cleaning roller, which is not present in the original cartridges. All manufacturers from whom we buy cassettes have both ISO 9001 quality certification and ISO 14001 environmental certification. In terms of price, new cartridges are 20-70% cheaper than original cartridges.
Why are there different priced accessory cartridges in your selections?
We import cassettes from several different manufacturers. Of course, our purchase prices vary depending on the manufacturer, and the selling price follows the purchase price. The rule of thumb is that the more expensive the cartridge, the better quality it is. This is because the cartridge has better quality parts and toner than the cheaper model. The warranty period can sometimes be a bit confusing, because the cheaper manufacturer has sometimes chosen as a strategy to offer a longer warranty period in order to gain a competitive advantage. Therefore, sometimes a cartridge with a 2-year warranty is more expensive than a cartridge with a 3-year warranty. Still, the more expensive cartridge is probably of better quality because the parts of the cartridge determine the manufacturer's selling price the most.
What kind of warranty do your toner cartridges have?
The warranty varies by product and is mentioned in the product information (usually 6 months to 5 years). If the warranty period is not mentioned separately, the warranty is 6 months. In the original cartridges of the device manufacturer, the warranty is the warranty period granted by the manufacturer (e.g. Canon) for the product.
How high quality are your products?
One defective cartridge causes us an additional cost of 35 euros on average, so for that reason alone we strive to sell products that the customer does not have to return. In addition to the price of the new product, costs arise from customer returns and mailing a new cassette. So it makes sense for us financially to sell only high-quality products. Already with about 20 years of experience and focusing on the printing supplies industry, we know which manufacturer can make which type of cassettes well. We also know in which models it is worth paying a little extra so that the cassette will definitely work well. That's why our complaint rate is exceptionally low and we save on return costs. A high-quality cartridge therefore enables cheaper prices, as contradictory as it sounds. We also offer cartridges of different quality levels at a slightly higher price if, for example, color reproduction is particularly important to the customer in image printing. Of course, we also sell printer manufacturers' original cartridges, which have a slightly lower claim rate.
Can the supply cartridge damage the printer?
It is a technical product, so in theory it is possible. However, the probability of damage to the printer with our cartridges is extremely low, almost non-existent. We sell tens of thousands of cassettes a year and yet, since 1995, only a few printers have been damaged. We also have a special "printer safety guarantee" on many products that covers such damages.
What do I do if the product is wrong or there are problems using it?
In the top bar of our online store, from the Feedback section, a form template opens, which you can fill out to process the complaint the fastest. Under no circumstances should you return a cassette to us without contacting us first. Note! When you receive a toner cartridge, its shipping box will list only a small number of printers that the cartridge is compatible with. More printers are constantly being added, and it is therefore impossible to mention all printer models on the label of the cartridge. Also remember to remove all transport protections and, especially for HP laser cartridges, you must also pull out the plastic sealing strip from the end before using the cartridge. So, in any case, contact us before you do anything.
How can we dispose of empty cartridges properly?
The easiest way is to deliver the empty cassette to the collection box of the nearest home appliance store. High-quality cartridge replacement always requires disassembling the cartridges, checking the quality and replacing bad parts before adding new toner or ink. Unfortunately, at the Finnish salary level, this is not possible and the working time used for renovation has to be compromised - at the expense of quality. For this reason, we do not renew cassettes ourselves, but bring finished products from large factories around the world. Therefore, empty cassettes are not useful for us either. If you deliver the empty cassettes to us at your own expense, we will of course deliver them one pallet at a time through European sorting centers for recycling. It takes about three liters of oil to make one laser cartridge, so reuse is an important issue.
What kind of company maintains the mustekala.fi online store?
Innofis Oy is a 100% domestic company founded in 1995. The company's main activity is the mustekala.fi and variaine.fi online stores, but also ergoshop.fi is part of our "family" of online stores. We are a solvent and steadily growing company and our warehouse is located in Koivuhaa, Vantaa. We do not engage in tax gimmicks by sending our products from Åland, but we have always paid not only corporate tax but also our value added tax to Finland for the common benefit of all of us.
How much does the product cost and are there volume discounts on the products?
All prices are shown in the product information. If you are ordering accessory cartridges, so-called in wholesale batches, i.e. several dozen copies of the same cassette, you can of course ask for an offer. This only applies to laser cartridges, i.e. ink cartridges do not have this option. The prices also include value added tax of 24%.
What is the information security like in your store?
From the beginning, we have started from the fact that the systems that most effectively protect the customer's information security and privacy have been selected. In 2017, our online store received an SSL certificate known from banks as a guarantee of security. The SSL certificate in question ensures that third parties cannot monitor traffic and modify or steal data. Doing business with us is always safe.
In connection with the payment transaction, the customer switches to make the payment to their own bank or credit card payment broker. The customer therefore does not give us any credit card information or bank credentials.
Even during voluntary registration, the password provided by the customer remains secret, i.e. we do not see the password at all. So if you forget or lose your password, you must ask us for a new password "drawn" by the system. In this matter, too many online stores compromise the customer's data security, and too many customers share their commonly used password with different stores.
Our servers are located in Finland in the data center of a large and reliable service provider, where there is continuous monitoring 24 hours a day.
You can shop with us with confidence.
